2MASS

Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS), which will canvas the entire sky for stars and galaxies as much as 50,000 times fainter than the stars seen in the last survey.กก

The 2MASS project is being done by scientists from several institutions. UMASS is responsible for the overall management of the project, and for developing the infrared cameras and on-site computing systems. The data will be processed at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center at Caltech/JPL, and will result in catalogs of ~300 million stars and few million galaxies, as well as an atlas of images of the entire sky -- a rich resource with which to explore the largest structures in the Milky Way and the large scale structure of the Local Universe.

All data are available on CD-ROM. Documentation is available on disk, on-line, and as hard copy. Software (FORTRAN and C) programs for data retrieval are provided on CD-ROM.                Data Volume>10GB.
