  • Your normal HF transceiver is fine.
  • However you do need to calibrate your signal strength or S-meter. Absolute signal strength is NOT necessary, but it is important to have the RELATIVE signal strength to within 2-3dB. A  detailed description as to how to calibrate your S-meter is available here
  • Some form of "data logger ". Pen and paper or a computer if you have one.
  • A clock.
