The same principles apply to VLF band users as to HF users. But you have to have MUCH LONGER GROUND RANGES to ensure  SKY WAVE PROPAGATION. So if you are in the UK you should still try to have the radio waves reflecting near the path of totality. But this will mean working contacts outside of Europe and much later in the day. The eclipse path goes on into India in the evening.
